Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Jets.

The Jets went off the board in a big way for Jelani Thurman, 247 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. It is not that Styles is a bad player; it is that the Jets had louder needs to answer first.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In slot 7 they get a two-high chess piece. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick18 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38 Rnd2 Kayden McDonald
Fair-plus on Kayden McDonald, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick47 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 47 on Sonny Styles with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
Pick104 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at pick No. 104 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. at pick 177 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick194 Rnd6 Brandon Inniss
Brandon Inniss at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick203 Rnd6 Malik Hartford
This one needs a full-page explanation: Malik Hartford in Round 6, Pick 23, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick212 Rnd6 Ethan Onianwa
They talked themselves into Ethan Onianwa at the 212th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick218 Rnd7 Jelani Thurman
A wild overpay on Jelani Thurman in slot 218, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick239 Rnd7 Damon Payne
Damon Payne at pick 239 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick254 Rnd7 Dominic Zvada
Value said wait; Dominic Zvada in pick No. 254 says they were not listening. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick256 Rnd7 TJ Metcalf
A swing that ignored the value entirely, TJ Metcalf well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
