Nolan Clinansmith DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Chargers. Nobody else had Damon Payne anywhere near pick No. 206. The Chargers did, by 194 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Reese steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick59
Rnd2
Rod Moore
Rod Moore at pick 59 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick90
Rnd3
Justice Haynes
Justice Haynes at No. 90 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jyaire Hill
Value said wait; Jyaire Hill in pick No. 125 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick206
Rnd6
Damon Payne
Damon Payne at the 206th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
