Nolan Clinansmith DRAFTING FOR THECardinals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Cardinals. Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Cardinals never addressed quarterback, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Bishop value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The McMillan pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In No. 18 they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Pick66
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Xavier Legette at Round 3, Pick 2 is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick71
Rnd3
Blake Fisher
They took Blake Fisher at par in pick No. 71, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick82
Rnd3
Trey Benson
The board had Trey Benson higher than slot 82, and the running back fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
They paid up for Jalen McMillan at pick 90 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick104
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
They let Cole Bishop come to them and pounced at the 104th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick138
Rnd5
Bucky Irving
Nothing to complain about; Bucky Irving went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick162
Rnd5
AJ Barner
A straight-up fair deal on AJ Barner at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick191
Rnd6
Kalen King
Kalen King in pick No. 191 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick226
Rnd7
Myles Murphy
The board had cheaper options than Myles Murphy at the 226th overall pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
