Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B+
ValueB

TradesA+
FutureB-
The Saints turned the phones into found money: B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Saints came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Winston Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
They will need Dike to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
They took Matthew Golden at par in the 14th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in pick 40 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
A straight-up fair deal on Jonah Savaiinaea at the 45th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick71
Rnd3
Deone Walker
They did well to land Deone Walker in No. 71, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick93
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
Good price on Denzel Burke in pick No. 93, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick112
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
They let Kevin Winston Jr. come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 10. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jeffrey Bassa at linebacker with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick131
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick184
Rnd6
Chimere Dike
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Chimere Dike. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick232
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa is a better player than pick 232 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
