A respectable, level-headed haul for the Saints: B-. The Saints torched the value chart for Teddye Buchanan, taking him 59 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Walker at that price is a win they earned. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
The board had Matthew Golden higher than the 22nd pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker is a better player than pick 40 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick71
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in No. 71 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick81
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They paid sticker price for Ozzy Trapilo in slot 81, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick86
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 86 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick93
Rnd3
Tai Felton
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tai Felton. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
No edge and no loss on Denzel Burke in Round 4, Pick 10; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
Value said wait; Jackson Slater in pick 131 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick184
Rnd6
Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick193
Rnd6
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at No. 193 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick248
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
By-the-book stuff, Ty Hamilton at the 248th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
A tidy little value on LaJohntay Wester in pick No. 254, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
