Draft Grade — Saints
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Saints and Hadden: D-.

Somebody took the Saints to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Put together, it is a D-.

The Robinson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Hadden to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The Luke Fortner pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the 17th overall pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick45 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in the 45th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at pick 79 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick136 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at No. 136 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick152 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
They will replay Kamal Hadden at slot 152 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171 Rnd5 Justin Eboigbe
They paid sticker price for Justin Eboigbe in Round 5, Pick 35, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick176 Rnd6 Steve Linton
They liked Steve Linton enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick192 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
They paid up for Curtis Jacobs at No. 192 when waiting would have done the job. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick195 Rnd6 Zion Nelson
Zion Nelson at the 195th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick205 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark slipping to pick No. 205 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jason Henderson
Jason Henderson in Round 7, Pick 17 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
