FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Saints for Etienne: D. Somebody took the Saints to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need Jones Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Etienne. The Saints paired the rookies with proven help, Haason Reddick leading the way.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In slot 14 they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at the 40th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick45
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyleik Williams in pick 45. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick71
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
Nice patience on Isaiah Bond, who had no business lasting to pick No. 71. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick85
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Donovan Jackson at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
The board had cheaper options than Jalen Milroe at the 92nd overall pick, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick109
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
A big swing on Emery Jones Jr. at pick 109, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111
Rnd4
Carson Schwesinger
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Carson Schwesinger in slot 111, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick116
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
They will replay Tez Johnson at the 116th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Circle this one: Jared Wilson at No. 130 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick186
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed in pick No. 186 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick254
Rnd7
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne in Round 7, Pick 36 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
