Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB FutureA+
The Saints won the night they stopped Ford from sliding. Grade: B+.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jaylan Ford had no business being available in the 170th pick, and the Saints did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Byron Murphy Jr. gives the group a proven body among the projects.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick44 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
A tidy little value on Chop Robinson in No. 44, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick46 Rnd2 Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 46th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick136 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 36, where Khyree Jackson graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick149 Rnd5 Layden Robinson
A conviction pick on Layden Robinson at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick150 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jordan Travis in the 150th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick162 Rnd5 Malik Washington
Good price on Malik Washington in slot 162, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick170 Rnd5 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at pick 170 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick191 Rnd6 Steve Linton
A straight-up fair deal on Steve Linton at pick No. 191, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick204 Rnd6 Jalen Berger
Jalen Berger in slot 204 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
