Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The phones were a trap the Texans kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

Every board in the league had Foster lower, and that gap is the story. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Chris Braswell
In the 31st pick they get a premier pass rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
No edge and no loss on Chop Robinson in Round 2, Pick 5; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick47 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
A premium they did not need to pay, Cooper Beebe a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks at pick 71 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick98 Rnd3 Javon Foster
Value said wait; Javon Foster in No. 98 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick101 Rnd4 Malik Washington
They jumped the gun on Malik Washington, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163 Rnd5 Trey Knox
Trey Knox at the 163rd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick176 Rnd6 Christian Jones
They paid up for Christian Jones at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
