Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B+
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Panthers robbed the room for Gabriel. Final grade: B+. The Panthers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Gabriel that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In pick 32 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
They will replay Walter Nolen at slot 39 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick49
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas at the 49th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick83
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
By-the-book stuff, Ozzy Trapilo at the 83rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick114
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson slipping to Round 4, Pick 12 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133
Rnd4
Kyle Williams
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Kyle Williams. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick140
Rnd5
Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker in slot 140 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick146
Rnd5
Dillon Gabriel
Somehow Dillon Gabriel was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick163
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
Nothing to complain about; O'Donnell Fortune went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick228
Rnd7
Maxen Hook
Value with a capital V on Maxen Hook in the 228th pick, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick230
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They paid a round early for Isaac TeSlaa in Round 7, Pick 14, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
