The Panthers cashed the board's mistake on Thornton Jr.: B. Somebody in No. 229 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Panthers sat still while Dont'e Thornton Jr., the No. 176 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The veteran additions, Vita Vea chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
