Smith should have been long gone. The Panthers pounced, and earned a A-.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Brashard Smith, the No. 116 name on the board, stolen at the 204th pick. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
