Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueC- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The 49ers get a C+.

The 49ers put a flag in the ground for JJ Pegues, 49 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Jihaad Campbell
In the 11th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
By-the-book stuff, JT Tuimoloau at pick No. 43 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jordan Phillips
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Phillips. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100 Rnd3 Billy Bowman Jr.
They paid up for Billy Bowman Jr. at Round 3, Pick 36 when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish in the 113th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick138 Rnd4 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at No. 138 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick147 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
A wild overpay on Ty Robinson in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick160 Rnd5 Caleb Rogers
Caleb Rogers at pick 160 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
They jumped the gun on Isaac TeSlaa, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249 Rnd7 CJ Dippre
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on CJ Dippre. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick252 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
A reach on Marcus Yarns in slot 252; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
