Good, not great, for the 49ers: B. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Darius Alexander at slot 99, a reach of 33 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Josh Simmons
In slot 12 they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at No. 43 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at pick No. 75 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
They left a pile of value on the table to take Darius Alexander this early at the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Nothing to complain about; Jared Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
