Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Lions.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Lions reached some 46 spots for Bryce Boettcher, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a blindside protector, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in pick No. 50 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick118 Rnd4 Bryce Boettcher
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Bryce Boettcher well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick155 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at pick 155 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick186 Rnd6 Miles Kitselman
Miles Kitselman in No. 186 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick203 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
No drama and no debate, Trey Zuhn III went about where he belonged in slot 203. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick212 Rnd6 Daevin Hobbs
They jumped the gun on Daevin Hobbs, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick222 Rnd7 Dijon Johnson
Dijon Johnson at the 222nd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
