X60MBS DRAFTING FOR THEBengals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bengals a B. Everything else got attention, and tight end got none. That is a strange way for the Bengals to leave a draft. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jackson. They are betting Stackhouse proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In pick No. 17 they get a sticky cover corner, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on JT Tuimoloau. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick81
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Phillips in pick 119. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick153
Rnd5
Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in No. 153 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick193
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
A conviction pick on Nazir Stackhouse at Round 6, Pick 17 that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
