Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Saints let Warren fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Tyler Warren got past him. The Saints do not have to explain a thing at Round 2, Pick 8. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Conner reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In the Round 1 slot they get a lead back with juice. A real need, handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Tyler Warren in the 40th overall pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jared Ivey
They paid a round early for Jared Ivey in pick 71, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick93 Rnd3 Quinn Ewers
No edge and no loss on Quinn Ewers in slot 93; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick112 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at Round 4, Pick 10 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick131 Rnd4 Sai'vion Jones
They paid up for Sai'vion Jones at the 131st pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick184 Rnd6 Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt slid further than he should have, and pick No. 184 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick248 Rnd7 Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway in No. 248 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick254 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
The board had cheaper options than Hayden Conner at slot 254, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
