Draft Grade — Jets

The Jets let Daniels fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jalon Daniels, the 255th overall pick, roughly 31 picks past where he belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
If Ioane pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, though they paid up to get him. More want than need.
Pick18
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In pick No. 18 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection.
Pick35
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
Kayden McDonald at pick 35 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick45
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in the 45th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick105
Rnd4
Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kenyatta Jackson Jr.. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick176
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jermaine Mathews Jr. a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick178
Rnd5
Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick196
Rnd6
CJ Daniels
They read the board right and CJ Daniels was the payoff at the 196th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick205
Rnd6
Josh Moten
They paid sticker price for Josh Moten in pick No. 205, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick212
Rnd6
Drayk Bowen
They liked Drayk Bowen enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jordan Castell
A reach on Jordan Castell in the 220th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick240
Rnd7
Nolan Rucci
No drama and no debate, Nolan Rucci went about where he belonged in No. 240. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels in slot 255 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick257
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander at Round 7, Pick 41 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
