jj3325 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Packers and Bullock: B-. The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Calen Bullock, the No. 49 name on the board, in the 88th overall pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Thomas reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kamren Kinchens
In pick 25 they get a two-high chess piece, though they paid up to get him.
Pick41
Rnd2
Byron Murphy II
No edge and no loss on Byron Murphy II in Round 2, Pick 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick57
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at slot 57 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick88
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Calen Bullock in No. 88 leaves quarterback, wide receiver and other spots for later.
Pick91
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They paid sticker price for Zak Zinter in the 91st pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 125 with a little surplus value in Jarrian Jones. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick135
Rnd4
Jaylen Wright
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylen Wright well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick203
Rnd6
Rasheen Ali
A tidy bit of business in the 203rd overall pick, where Rasheen Ali graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick217
Rnd6
Sheridan Jones
Good price on Sheridan Jones in the 217th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick219
Rnd6
Xavier Thomas
A big swing on Xavier Thomas at pick No. 219, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick246
Rnd7
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
