Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedB TradesD+ FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Commanders for Williams: C+.

When a board-topper like James Williams slides to slot 144, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not. A mixed bag that lands at C+.

That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Limmer pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver and tight end still on the board. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

If Dallas Turner and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In pick 12 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Graham Barton
Nice patience on Graham Barton, who had no business lasting to pick No. 36. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy at No. 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick66 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
By-the-book stuff, Blake Fisher at slot 66 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick76 Rnd3 Cade Stover
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 12. Wide receiver and tight end needed the pick; a TE-EDGE in Cade Stover did not.
Pick90 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Fair-plus on Khyree Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick101 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer in the 101st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick103 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
A big swing on Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 3, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick105 Rnd4 Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy at slot 105 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick122 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
Nothing to complain about; Tyler Davis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick138 Rnd5 Sataoa Laumea
They will replay Sataoa Laumea at pick No. 138 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick144 Rnd5 James Williams
The board fumbled James Williams all the way to the 144th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick181 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
A clean, defensible pick in pick 181 with a little surplus value in Dwight McGlothern. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick220 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing JD Bertrand in the 220th pick. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
