Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Seahawks this weekend: B.

The Seahawks looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jackson Hawes at the 172nd overall pick regardless, 82 picks early. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. It is not that Bryant is a bad player; it is that the Seahawks had louder needs to answer first. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

The Watts steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In slot 30 they get a load in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick50 Rnd2 Trey Amos
Trey Amos at the 50th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick56 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 24: Xavier Watts for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick57 Rnd2 Demetrius Knight Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Demetrius Knight Jr. at pick No. 57 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick82 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
They paid sticker price for Ozzy Trapilo in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick92 Rnd3 Gunnar Helm
Nothing to complain about; Gunnar Helm went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick121 Rnd4 Cobee Bryant
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 121st overall pick on Cobee Bryant with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots unsolved.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jake Majors
A straight-up fair deal on Jake Majors at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick137 Rnd4 Willie Lampkin
They talked themselves into Willie Lampkin at pick No. 137, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick157 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in No. 157 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick172 Rnd5 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at Round 5, Pick 34 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick175 Rnd5 Jack Nelson
No drama and no debate, Jack Nelson went about where he belonged in pick 175. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick223 Rnd7 Mac McWilliams
A wild overpay on Mac McWilliams in the 223rd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
