Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueC- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
The Texans fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Texans came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

They will need Brooks to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Dre Greenlaw deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Jonathon Brooks
In the Round 1 slot they get a featured back, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick47 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 15 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick71 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
A reach for Roman Wilson in pick 75; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick123 Rnd4 Javon Foster
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in No. 123; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick126 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams in the 126th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick127 Rnd4 Cam Hart
They jumped the gun on Cam Hart, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick164 Rnd5 Austin Booker
Austin Booker in pick No. 164 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Wiley in the 185th pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
