Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureA
The Bears got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

Nobody else had Baylor Cupp anywhere near the 232nd overall pick. The Bears did, by 192 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Walley value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In No. 9 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
They went early on Chop Robinson in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick66 Rnd3 Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro in pick 66 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brenden Rice. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick103 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in pick No. 103 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick106 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
Nothing to complain about; Zak Zinter went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick113 Rnd4 Dallin Holker
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dallin Holker. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick118 Rnd4 Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at the 118th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick122 Rnd4 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick127 Rnd4 Beau Brade
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Beau Brade at Round 4, Pick 27. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick129 Rnd4 Max Melton
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Max Melton in No. 129. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
A tidy little value on Jaheim Bell in pick 146, a step better than break-even. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick149 Rnd5 Edefuan Ulofoshio
A conviction pick on Edefuan Ulofoshio at slot 149 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick154 Rnd5 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 154 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick162 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in the 162nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick166 Rnd5 Moose Muhammad III
Moose Muhammad III at No. 166 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick186 Rnd6 Brevyn Spann-Ford
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brevyn Spann-Ford in the Round 6 slot, miles early. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick188 Rnd6 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They let Zion Tupuola-Fetui come to them and pounced at pick 188. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick198 Rnd6 Josh Proctor
No edge and no loss on Josh Proctor in the 198th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick202 Rnd6 Christian Jones
They paid up for Christian Jones at slot 202 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick207 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
The board had cheaper options than De'Corian Clark at Round 6, Pick 32, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick225 Rnd7 Taulia Tagovailoa
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Taulia Tagovailoa well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick227 Rnd7 Carson Steele
They reached into another round for Carson Steele, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick232 Rnd7 Baylor Cupp
Baylor Cupp at the 232nd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick233 Rnd7 Justin Walley
Justin Walley in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick236 Rnd7 Trevor Keegan
A real head-scratcher, Trevor Keegan in the 236th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick241 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
A wild overpay on Eric Gentry in pick 241, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick250 Rnd7 Mark Perry
They jumped the gun on Mark Perry, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
