Draft Grade — Bengals

FutureA+
Grand theft in pick 153: the Bengals steal James and grade out a A-. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jordan James, the No. 118 name on the board, stolen at slot 153. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
The Conner reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
They will replay Tyler Warren at slot 49 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick76
Rnd3
Kyle Kennard
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kyle Kennard. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick81
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker at No. 81 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick82
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Darien Porter at pick 82 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick119
Rnd4
Miles Frazier
A straight-up fair deal on Miles Frazier at Round 4, Pick 17, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jordan James
The board fumbled Jordan James all the way to pick No. 153, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick193
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A tidy bit of business in the 193rd pick, where Dont'e Thornton Jr. graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick213
Rnd6
Caleb Rogers
Caleb Rogers is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick236
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in pick 236 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241
Rnd7
Cam Horsley
They took Cam Horsley at par in the 241st pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
