Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent the 91st pick on Caden Curry, a name most had 40 spots down the list. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Getting Hall where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick36 Rnd2 Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson in pick 36 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick58 Rnd2 Gennings Dunker
The board had Gennings Dunker higher than Round 2, Pick 26, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick91 Rnd3 Caden Curry
They reached into another round for Caden Curry, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106 Rnd4 Bud Clark
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Bud Clark. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jack Endries
Jack Endries at No. 127 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick134 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
A reach on CJ Daniels in pick No. 134; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138 Rnd4 Skyler Gill-Howard
Skyler Gill-Howard in pick 138 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick154 Rnd5 Malik Benson
Malik Benson is a better player than Round 5, Pick 14 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick168 Rnd5 Aaron Graves
Aaron Graves in pick No. 168 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick211 Rnd6 Kaelon Black
No edge and no loss on Kaelon Black in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick243 Rnd7 TJ Hall
TJ Hall in No. 243 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
