Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Browns for Fields: B.

There is a lot to like until you notice edge rusher is still a hole. The Browns never got to the one that mattered most.

The Fields pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They are betting Rucci proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In slot 6 they get a centerfielder for the defense at fair value.
Pick26 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In No. 26 they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in Round 2, Pick 7 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick70 Rnd3 Blake Miller
Blake Miller at the 70th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Pick91 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields at pick No. 91 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick107 Rnd4 Deion Burks
Deion Burks at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139 Rnd5 Drew Allar
No drama and no debate, Drew Allar went about where he belonged in pick 139. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick144 Rnd5 Tim Keenan III
Fair-plus on Tim Keenan III, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tanner Koziol. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick204 Rnd6 Nolan Rucci
Nolan Rucci in the 204th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jerry Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Jerry Wilson at No. 220, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick248 Rnd7 London Humphreys
They did well to land London Humphreys in Round 7, Pick 32, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
