Coleman should have been long gone. The Bengals pounced, and earned a B+. The Bengals did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Keon Coleman fell into pick 80.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
In No. 18 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick54
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at Round 2, Pick 22 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick80
Rnd3
Keon Coleman
They will replay Keon Coleman at slot 80 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick116
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
They paid sticker price for Sataoa Laumea in the 116th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
A reach for Kitan Oladapo in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick175
Rnd5
Johnny Dixon
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Dixon. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
