Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Cowboys: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Phillip Webb in the 247th overall pick.

However the rest shakes out, Strong at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The skill positions did well by the weekend.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In the 12th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
A reach for Alfred Collins in pick 44; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick76 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
A premium they did not need to pay, Danny Stutsman a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick149 Rnd5 Dorian Strong
You do not let a cornerback like Dorian Strong reach slot 149 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jaydon Blue
Jaydon Blue in Round 5, Pick 33 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick174 Rnd5 Ollie Gordon II
A tidy little value on Ollie Gordon II in the 174th overall pick, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick204 Rnd6 Brady Cook
They reached into another round for Brady Cook, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick211 Rnd6 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at the 211th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick239 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
A big swing on Shilo Sanders at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick247 Rnd7 Phillip Webb
They reached a country mile for Phillip Webb at pick No. 247, and the board is aghast. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
