Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureC+
The Eagles did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The Eagles looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Vernon Broughton at No. 161 regardless, 25 picks early. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

Carter at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

Their trades came out a wash either way.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick37 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
They went early on Landon Jackson in the 37th pick, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick52 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
A straight-up fair deal on Alfred Collins at pick No. 52, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick96 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick108 Rnd4 Jacob Parrish
They liked Jacob Parrish enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 6. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick134 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at the 134th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick143 Rnd5 Riley Leonard
A quiet steal in No. 143: Riley Leonard for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Vernon Broughton. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick164 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt in Round 5, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick165 Rnd5 Jaydon Blue
They paid up for Jaydon Blue at the 165th pick when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick168 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 168 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick180 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
A reach on Oronde Gadsden II in the 180th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
