Draft Grade — Seahawks

The Seahawks cashed the board's mistake on Bellamy: B-. Somebody in the 213th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Seahawks sat still while Jayden Bellamy, the No. 188 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will answer for taking wide receiver early while tight end went begging. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If Sategna III pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Will Echoles
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick50
Rnd2
Kade Pieper
Nothing to complain about; Kade Pieper went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick80
Rnd3
Greg Johnson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Greg Johnson at pick No. 80. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100
Rnd3
Iapani Laloulu
They took Iapani Laloulu at par in Round 3, Pick 36, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick101
Rnd3
Nyck Harbor
A surprising call. With tight end still to address, they spent No. 101 on Nyck Harbor, a wide receiver they were not short of.
Pick117
Rnd4
Josh Hoover
No drama and no debate, Josh Hoover went about where he belonged in the 117th pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick125
Rnd4
Shadre Hurst
They let Shadre Hurst come to them and pounced at the 125th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick135
Rnd4
Marcus Neal Jr.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Marcus Neal Jr. while clear needs at tight end sat open.
Pick153
Rnd5
Eli Bowen
Eli Bowen at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick156
Rnd5
Whit Weeks
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Whit Weeks. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick175
Rnd5
Mateen Ibirogba
They did well to land Mateen Ibirogba in the 175th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick177
Rnd5
Isaiah Sategna III
They jumped the gun on Isaiah Sategna III, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick196
Rnd6
Justice Haynes
They paid a round early for Justice Haynes in pick 196, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jayden Bellamy
They will replay Jayden Bellamy at Round 6, Pick 34 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick237
Rnd7
Edwin Spillman
Circle this one: Edwin Spillman at the 237th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
