Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Allen: B. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Braelon Allen slide 26 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had McCormick lower, and that gap is the story.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In pick 31 they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ruke Orhorhoro. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Max Melton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Max Melton at slot 94. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick96
Rnd3
Malik Washington
Malik Washington in pick No. 96 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at the 131st overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
They barely believed it either: Braelon Allen still on the board at the Round 4 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
They liked Jaheim Bell enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 17. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick176
Rnd6
Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha in the 176th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick211
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
They took Nathaniel Watson at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick226
Rnd7
Andrew Raym
Andrew Raym in No. 226 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick251
Rnd7
Bub Means
Bub Means at the 251st pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
