FutureA+
The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B. There is conviction, and then there is this. The 49ers took Jaheim Bell a full 21 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Morgan pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 2 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick59
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan at slot 59 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick90
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
By-the-book stuff, Christian Haynes at pick 90 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick98
Rnd3
Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell at No. 98 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick108
Rnd4
Max Melton
Max Melton in the 108th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick127
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
They took Cole Bishop at par in Round 4, Pick 27, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
