Willyboys DRAFTING FOR THESaints

Draft Grade — Saints
Overall

Best value of the weekend goes to the Saints for Leonard: B-. Somebody in pick 131 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Saints sat still while Riley Leonard, the No. 101 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They are betting Umanmielen proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Princely Umanmielen
In the 9th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Malaki Starks at Round 2, Pick 8 is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick71
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
A straight-up fair deal on Tate Ratledge at No. 71, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick93
Rnd3
Devin Neal
Value with a capital V on Devin Neal in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Fair-plus on Jordan Phillips, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick131
Rnd4
Riley Leonard
You do not let a quarterback like Riley Leonard reach pick No. 131 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick184
Rnd6
Nohl Williams
A clean, defensible pick in the 184th pick with a little surplus value in Nohl Williams. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
