Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bills for Grant: B.

When a board-topper like Charles Grant slides to the Round 5 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Bills did not.

Every board in the league had Monheim lower, and that gap is the story. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In the 30th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick56 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Value with a capital V on Xavier Watts in Round 2, Pick 24, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick62 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
They took Tate Ratledge at par in the 62nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jonah Monheim
They reached into another round for Jonah Monheim, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick132 Rnd4 Aeneas Peebles
No edge and no loss on Aeneas Peebles in pick 132; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick169 Rnd5 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at No. 169 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick170 Rnd5 Charles Grant
Circle this one: Charles Grant at slot 170 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick173 Rnd5 LeQuint Allen
LeQuint Allen in pick No. 173 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick177 Rnd6 Tyler Shough
You do not let a quarterback like Tyler Shough reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick206 Rnd6 Alijah Huzzie
A tidy little value on Alijah Huzzie in slot 206, a step better than break-even. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
