Willyboys DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

ValueC+

TradesB-
FutureB-
Riley should have been long gone. The 49ers pounced, and earned a B-. Thirty-one other rooms let Quincy Riley slide, and the 49ers were the ones holding the card at slot 230. Highway robbery. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
If Vavao pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Landon Jackson
In pick No. 11 they get a problem off the edge, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malaki Starks at No. 43. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick75
Rnd3
Shemar Turner
A big swing on Shemar Turner at slot 75, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100
Rnd3
Tai Felton
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 100th pick is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jalen Milroe
They will replay Jalen Milroe at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick138
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke at the 138th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jeffrey Bassa
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jeffrey Bassa in Round 5, Pick 9, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick187
Rnd6
Zeek Biggers
They talked themselves into Zeek Biggers at pick 187, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick226
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick230
Rnd7
Quincy Riley
The board fumbled Quincy Riley all the way to Round 7, Pick 14, and they scooped it up. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick249
Rnd7
Moliki Matavao
Moliki Matavao in pick 249 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick252
Rnd7
Mose Vavao
Mose Vavao at slot 252 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
