Willyboys DRAFTING FOR THEPanthers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
D
ValueF
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A weekend the Panthers will want back. Grade: D. The war room fell hard for R.J. Oben, and it showed at pick No. 8: 377 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Put together, it is a D.
The Swinson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
R.J. Oben
In pick No. 8 they get a problem off the edge, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick57
Rnd2
Xzavier Henderson
A big swing on Xzavier Henderson at No. 57, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74
Rnd3
Ahmed Hassanein
A real head-scratcher, Ahmed Hassanein in Round 3, Pick 10 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111
Rnd4
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo in the 111th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick114
Rnd4
Tre Williams
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tre Williams in the 114th pick, miles early. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick140
Rnd5
Alijah Huzzie
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Alijah Huzzie well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick146
Rnd5
Bradyn Swinson
They barely believed it either: Bradyn Swinson still on the board at pick No. 146. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163
Rnd5
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at slot 163 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick227
Rnd7
Kaimon Rucker
Kaimon Rucker at Round 7, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
