Boards are made to be trusted, and the Bengals shredded theirs for Dayon Hayes. He came off 247 spots early, and the room will hear about it. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Johnson. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

Spending an early pick on edge rusher with cornerback, tight end and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

So much rides on Abdul Carter that the real verdict is a season or two away.
