Willyboys DRAFTING FOR THETitans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Titans
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Titans. The Que Robinson pick is the one that will follow the Titans into the fall. They took him 148 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Dotson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In the 1st pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
The board had Kenneth Grant higher than the Round 2 slot, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103
Rnd4
Que Robinson
A wild overpay on Que Robinson in the 103rd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick120
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
Taking Sebastian Castro in pick No. 120 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick141
Rnd5
LeQuint Allen
A reasonable price with a little left over, LeQuint Allen in pick 141. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick167
Rnd5
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at slot 167 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178
Rnd6
Mello Dotson
Mello Dotson in No. 178 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick188
Rnd6
Torricelli Simpkins III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Torricelli Simpkins III this early at pick 188. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
