Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Chargers, and a B- to prove it.

The Chargers spent real capital to be 106 picks early on Barryn Sorrell, and the board is going to hold them to it. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

Higgins at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Wyatt Milum
In the 22nd overall pick they get a cornerstone up front, reach and all.
Pick55 Rnd2 Jared Ivey
They talked themselves into Jared Ivey at Round 2, Pick 23, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86 Rnd3 Jah Joyner
Jah Joyner in slot 86 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
A reach on Rylie Mills in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick158 Rnd5 Cam Horsley
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cam Horsley this early at pick 158. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick181 Rnd6 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant at the 181st pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick199 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
A slide stopped in pick 199, with Jason Marshall Jr. worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick209 Rnd6 Barryn Sorrell
Barryn Sorrell at Round 6, Pick 33 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick214 Rnd6 Damien Martinez
The board fumbled Damien Martinez all the way to the 214th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick218 Rnd7 Ben Yurosek
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ben Yurosek in the 218th overall pick, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick255 Rnd7 Jay Higgins
They barely believed it either: Jay Higgins still on the board at pick No. 255. It adds depth where they could use a little.
