Willyboys DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Grand theft in pick 125: the Chargers steal Judkins and grade out a B-. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Quinshon Judkins got past him. The Chargers do not have to explain a thing at the 125th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will need Brooks to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
Good price on Mykel Williams in pick 22, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick55
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
A premium they did not need to pay, Donovan Ezeiruaku a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick86
Rnd3
Joshua Farmer
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joshua Farmer in the 86th pick, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick125
Rnd4
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at the 125th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick158
Rnd5
Luke Lachey
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Luke Lachey well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick181
Rnd6
Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks at No. 181 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick199
Rnd6
Connor Colby
Connor Colby at slot 199 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick209
Rnd6
Craig Woodson
Fair-plus on Craig Woodson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in the 214th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jabbar Muhammad
They paid up for Jabbar Muhammad at slot 218 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255
Rnd7
Kai Kroeger
A conviction pick on Kai Kroeger at pick No. 255 that the board grades a round light. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
