Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Simon: B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Cody Simon slide 103 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

They are betting Smith proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Wyatt Milum
In the 11th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at the 43rd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75 Rnd3 Dani Dennis-Sutton
Dani Dennis-Sutton at slot 75 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick99 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in Round 3, Pick 35 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick111 Rnd4 Luke Kandra
A tidy little value on Luke Kandra in pick 111, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick137 Rnd4 Jake Majors
The board fumbled Jake Majors all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick185 Rnd6 O'Donnell Fortune
A real head-scratcher, O'Donnell Fortune in pick No. 185 is miles ahead of his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick226 Rnd7 Tim Smith
Tim Smith at No. 226 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick230 Rnd7 Cody Simon
They will replay Cody Simon at the 230th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick249 Rnd7 Micah Morris
Micah Morris at No. 249 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick255 Rnd7 Seth McLaughlin
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Seth McLaughlin in the 255th overall pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
