Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesC FutureA+
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Patriots.

The Patriots did not so much draft Torricelli Simpkins III as overpay for him, 26 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Aireontae Ersery
In the 32nd pick they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick69 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
A tidy bit of business in slot 69, where Demetrius Knight Jr. graded well above the range. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick77 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
No drama and no debate, Andrew Mukuba went about where he belonged in No. 77. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick97 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
By-the-book stuff, Zy Alexander at the 97th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
They did well to land Jared Wilson in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick134 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
A straight-up fair deal on Hollin Pierce at Round 4, Pick 32, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick144 Rnd5 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in slot 144 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick217 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at Round 7, Pick 1 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson in pick No. 220 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
Torricelli Simpkins III in the 238th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
