FutureB-
Simpson should have been long gone. The Ravens pounced, and earned a B-. Thirty-one other rooms let Jaylin Simpson slide, and the Ravens were the ones holding the card at slot 165. Highway robbery. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for McCormick left real value on the table behind him. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
In No. 30 they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick62
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at pick No. 62 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick93
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
A quiet steal in the 93rd overall pick: Kris Abrams-Draine for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick113
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Good price on Braelon Allen in slot 113, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick130
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
A conviction pick on Mason McCormick at Round 4, Pick 30 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in pick 165 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick218
Rnd6
Eric Watts
The board had cheaper options than Eric Watts at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick228
Rnd7
Marcellas Dial
A reach on Marcellas Dial in the 228th pick; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick250
Rnd7
Tyrice Knight
A straight-up fair deal on Tyrice Knight at pick No. 250, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
