Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B
ValueA NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Coleman should have been long gone. The Panthers pounced, and earned a B.

Call it larceny. Keon Coleman sat on the board until the Round 4 slot, and the Panthers did not need to be asked twice. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Jared Verse
Circle this one: Jared Verse at the 33rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick39 Rnd2 Rome Odunze
Rome Odunze at slot 39 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick65 Rnd3 Jordan Morgan
They barely believed it either: Jordan Morgan still on the board at the 65th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick101 Rnd4 Keon Coleman
They will replay Keon Coleman at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick142 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at pick No. 142 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick166 Rnd5 AJ Barner
They paid sticker price for AJ Barner in pick 166, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick240 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. is a better player than Round 7, Pick 20 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
