Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Packers a B-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: John Emery Jr., 97 picks early at the 246th overall pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Baker at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick42
Rnd2
Calen Bullock
They took Calen Bullock at par in slot 42, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick57
Rnd2
Javon Bullard
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Javon Bullard in No. 57 leaves quarterback and tight end for later.
Pick88
Rnd3
McKinnley Jackson
By-the-book stuff, McKinnley Jackson at the 88th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick91
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in pick No. 91 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick108
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in the 108th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick125
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 25 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick135
Rnd4
Max Melton
Circle this one: Max Melton at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick203
Rnd6
Ethan Driskell
Nice patience on Ethan Driskell, who had no business lasting to the 203rd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick217
Rnd6
Trevor Keegan
A reach for Trevor Keegan in slot 217; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick219
Rnd6
Javon Baker
Javon Baker at pick 219 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick246
Rnd7
John Emery Jr.
They reached into another round for John Emery Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
