Draft Grade — Packers

The Packers let Rosengarten fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

Somebody in the 217th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Roger Rosengarten, the No. 175 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They are betting Wright proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

The Gray pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41 Rnd2 Calen Bullock
No edge and no loss on Calen Bullock in pick 41; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick57 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick88 Rnd3 Jermaine Burton
Jermaine Burton at slot 88 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick91 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
They read the board right and Christian Haynes was the payoff at No. 91. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick125 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cedric Gray at linebacker with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick135 Rnd4 Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at the 135th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick203 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall in pick No. 203 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick217 Rnd6 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in pick 217 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick219 Rnd6 Omar Speights
Value with a capital V on Omar Speights in the 219th pick, a genuine coup. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick246 Rnd7 Demani Richardson
Demani Richardson at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
