njjj DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers won the night they stopped Viliamu-Asa from sliding. Grade: B-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa slide 18 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Williams pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
They will replay Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa at the 27th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick58
Rnd2
Dashawn Spears
By-the-book stuff, Dashawn Spears at pick No. 58 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick92
Rnd3
J'Koby Williams
A conviction pick on J'Koby Williams at slot 92 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick127
Rnd4
Emerson Mandell
Emerson Mandell in pick 127 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133
Rnd4
KJ Duff
No edge and no loss on KJ Duff in No. 133; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138
Rnd4
DJ McKinney
DJ McKinney at the 138th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jackson Arnold
They paid sticker price for Jackson Arnold in Round 5, Pick 33, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
