vickdawg22 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Patriots checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named interior defensive lineman, a need the Patriots walked right past. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They will need Sawyer to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
Value said wait; Jack Sawyer in pick No. 38 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jack Bech
A straight-up fair deal on Jack Bech at No. 69, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick77
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte in the 77th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106
Rnd4
Dylan Fairchild
No edge and no loss on Dylan Fairchild in the 106th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A wild overpay on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in slot 144, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171
Rnd5
Kalel Mullings
Fair-plus on Kalel Mullings, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Hancock at Round 7, Pick 4 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick238
Rnd7
CJ Dippre
A reach on CJ Dippre in slot 238; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
