Larceny in Round 5, Pick 11 lands the Cowboys a B, King and all. The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Kobe King, the No. 128 name on the board, in the 149th overall pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Broughton lower, and that gap is the story. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ashton Jeanty in slot 12. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick44
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
A clean, defensible pick in pick 44 with a little surplus value in T.J. Sanders. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel at Round 3, Pick 12 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick149
Rnd5
Kobe King
Somehow Kobe King was still sitting there in No. 149, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
They went early on Vernon Broughton in the 174th pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick204
Rnd6
Jarquez Hunter
Jarquez Hunter at pick No. 204 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick211
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at the Round 6 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick217
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
No edge and no loss on R.J. Mickens in the 217th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick239
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
Value with a capital V on Robert Longerbeam in slot 239, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick247
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
Nice patience on Carson Vinson, who had no business lasting to pick No. 247. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
