Dawson DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. The Fadil Diggs pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 66 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Horton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Grey Zabel
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
The board had Kaleb Johnson higher than pick No. 58, and the running back fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick89
Rnd3
Hollin Pierce
Value said wait; Hollin Pierce in slot 89 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tory Horton
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tory Horton at pick 127 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick167
Rnd5
Fadil Diggs
Fadil Diggs at the 167th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick243
Rnd7
Shemar James
Shemar James in No. 243 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
